With a record 80% voters turnout in the recent Mizoram election, politics has indeed been the main topic of discussion when two or more Mizos meet.
Just last night too I was hanging out at South Mumbai with a couple of Mizos and we hardly noticed the women around us. A couple of Mumbai Mizos’ dads are currently standing in this election in Mizoram, so if Congress wins, Mumbai Mizos expect to see more visits at Gokul's

An interesting analysis by my friends at samaw.com
Rajiv Nagar, a village in Mamit disctrict threw out interesting numbers! The number of voters in Rajiv Nagar-I is 888 and the number of voters in Rajiv Nagar-II is 666! With 888 and 666 both representing the number of Jesus and the Beast respectively, it is even more ironic that these two numbers came up for these two adjacent polling stations!
Currently leading: Congress: 10 MNF: 1 UDA: 0 |
Reports of Pu Lalthanhawla - Congress chief whip winning the South Tuipui constituency just got confirmed. All hail the King!

Reports just in of ZNP president Pu Lalduhawma losing in his constituency! Oh a big disaster for all UDA supporters!
UDA (United Democratic Alliance) = Alliance between ZNP and MPC. This may also affect all Brigadier T.Sailo’s fans as he is the party president of MPC, ZNP’s close ally.
Congress moving closer and closer to victory… question mark.
Currently leading: Congress: 13 MNF: 2 UDA: 1 |

Two of the guys I was… urmmm… "smiling" with last night, both their dads just won!!! Whooopieee! Just called them up to congratulate them, and I guess tonight there will be a lot more "smiles" to celebrate this occasion!
Congress already won 9 seats, and leading in 6. Mumbai Mizos looking forward to lots and lots of smiles
Currently leading: Congress: 15 MNF: 2 UDA: 1 |

10 seats out of total 40 seats won by Congress so far. Called up home. Mom is sad because dad is hardcore Congress so he’s going to spend the whole day making fun of mom who told him earlier that Congress will never make a come back! Hahaha! Funny parents! Cute too!
Currently leading: Congress: 16 MNF: 3 UDA: 1 |

Close call for Congress President Pu Lalthanhawla. Won South Tuipui constituency by 96 votes, and won Serchhip constituency by 952 votes! He reminds me of Narendra Modi - Inspite of so much negative campaigning and controversies about him, the people still voted him to power.
Ps. Have I told you that whenever he used to come over to our house, dude always use MY toilet? Coz apparently all the other toilets in our house are too low for him, so he finds my loo comfortable! Hmmm… future CM or not, he stunk up my loo a lot. Grrrr.
Currently leading: Congress: 17 MNF: 3 UDA: 0 |

MNF supremo and current CM Pu Zoramthanga lost in Champhai North constituency. Things are not looking good for MNF. Called up home and the report there is Congress unofficially taking 16 seats now, officially 13, with zero seats so far by any other parties! Are we seeing a clean sweep?
Counting is still going on at my locality Chaltlang (Aizawl North-I constituency), which was once considered an MNF stronghold. It would be interesting to see that result.
Currently leading: Congress: 16 MNF: 4 UDA: 0 |

12:35 PM
This just in. Chaltlang sees a new Congress MLA! Congress wins Aizawl North-I ending speculations that Chaltlang is an MNF stronghold. Pu Romawia (INC) beat two times winner Higher & Technical Minister Dr. Lalzama (MNF) in Aizawl North-I constituency. My good friend Pu Manzuala (IND) came in fourth
Aizawl North-II also goes to Congress. Pu H.Liansailova won by 266 votes. Aizawl North III has just been won by Pu Lalthanhawla's brother (INC) according to telephonic report.
Currently leading: Congress: 19 MNF: 5 UDA: 1 |

Starting to get more and more difficult working and updating blog at the same time. Calling up home every 5 mins. Dad says he wish everyday’s like today so that I can call home these many times in one single day. Aaaargh the sarcasm kills me softly!
17 confirmed wins by Congress so far. Almost there at the halfway mark and still no sign of any other parties! What a landslide this may turn out to be!
Currently leading: Congress: 21 MNF: 3 UDA: 1 |

Over a 100 Google Alerts for "Mizo" and "Mizoram" sitting in my inbox during just these past 3 hours! I know what they’re all going to say.
Select all. Mark all as read. Wish life was this simple.
Finally UDA and MNF won 1 seat each (Hrangturzo and East Tuipui respectively) Congress 20 seats ahead. lolz.
Currently leading: Congress: 21 MNF: 4 UDA: 1 |

Faulty online polls!
misual.com:
MNF – 42 %
UDA – 38 %
INC – 16 %
lawrkhawm.com:
UDA – 43 %
MNF – 32 %
INC – 25 %
buannel.com:
UDA – 41 %
INC – 30 %
MNF – 27 %
sample size: 1041
Here’s another interesting link from e-Mizoram: Opinion Poll by Zalen.
MNF – 47.42 %
INC – 38.08 %
UDA – 8.63 %
From the looks of it, nobody got it right… but then, maybe the battle is not yet over too. Me hungry!!!
Currently leading: Congress: 25 MNF: 3 UDA: 2 |

2:00 PM
Need… food.
Must… eat.
BRB after Congress wins.
21 confirmed seats for INC. Hehehe.
Currently leading: Congress: 26 MNF: 3 UDA: 2 |

2:30 PM
Wanna place a bet that Congress won’t win? I wonder which will have higher odds: Congress not winning now, or BJP winning before the count took place?
Congress still at 21, 1 seat past the halfway mark, and leading in 6 others. UDA took a second seat (Aizawl West-I: Pu Lalduhawma the man himself!). MNF still at one. Sad…
Pu Hawla is dancing, I’m sure. So’s the entire Hawla family. Good for them.
Currently leading: Congress: 27 MNF: 3 UDA: 2 |
----------------------------------------------
3:30 PM
Back from lunch. What did I miss? Ah. CM Pu Zoramthanga will hand in his resignation today ("You can’t fire me, I quit!" types) Must be quite embarrassing for him, being reduced to not even an MLA after serving two terms as CM.
MNF got 4 seats finally, while the much hyped UDA is still at 2. Congress is now at 24 while leading in 4 others. Clear Congress victory indeed.
Currently leading: Congress: 28 MNF: 5 UDA: 2 |
Ps. Currently this post is the hottest link among blogs in the past 12 hours related to Mizoram according to this Google Trends report (may change if you view this link later). Just wanna say thank you to you all!
----------------------------------------------
3:45 PM
One of the most admired Politicians, Brigadier T.Sailo (President of MPC) just won Aizawl West-II constituency. Congrats to him. With that, every Party Leader won at least one seat each, except for our outgoing CM. Oh, the shame!
Currently leading: Congress: 28 MNF: 5 UDA: 2 |
----------------------------------------------
4:40 PM
Still no change in the count. Still 10 seats remaining. Reason? People counting the votes in Mizoram are on their thingpui/kuhva-hring break! Ah good ‘ol Mizoram.
----------------------------------------------
5:25 PM
Things moving slowly now. With the results of the last few votes taking time to be announced, not many are restless as it is clear who’s going to form the next government. Strong anti-incumbency factor indeed.
Confirmed seats so far according to Election Commission of India Congress: 29 MNF: 3 UDA: 3 MDF: 1 (Maraland Democratic Front) 4 seats remaining. |
----------------------------------------------
6:15 PM
Still waiting. One more seat left. MNF leading in that. Ah, even if MNF wins, pyrrhic victory, how sweet is thine calling…
Confirmed seats so far: Congress: 31 MNF: 3 ZNP: 2 MPC: 2 MDF: 1 |
----------------------------------------------
7:15 PM
And that’s it. It’s finally over! Congress forms the next Mizoram Government bagging 32/40 seats, an undisputed 80% majority. Once again, opinion polls were wrong and once again political pundits committed a blunder. While all eyes were on UDA and MNF, Congress made a killing that would be remembered for a long time in Mizoram’s history.
FINAL COUNT: Congress: 32 MNF: 3 ZNP: 2 MPC: 2 MDF: 1 |
Well done Congress! w00t w00t w00t !!!

ReplyDeletehi sandman! you've been invited to join me in Fluffy Bear-iuca meme. Hv fun, k! :)
ReplyDelete@ luliana: You are most right, my friend :) The confusion arose because there was no Aizawl North-III in the last election, so with this area and that area being added here and there from Aizawl North I and II, it is not possible to compare with previous election. Thats what my sources in Chlaltang say :D
ReplyDelete@ Jean: Thank you dear. I'll be right over in a jiffy once I get this whole interesting election proceedings wound up.
