If you’re one of those people who looks like the “before” model in a Before and After advertisement about Weight loss, then hugzzz I completely empathize with you.
The past few months, I have gained a lotttt of weight, and have come to a point where I can suck in my belly no longer whenever I pass a chica. Some might call it love handles or spare tyres. I call it “that thingie”. Because I still can’t get used to the fact that it’s a part of my body, my own flesh and blood, jiggling and wiggling every time I make the slightest move.
Being a jock right through school, college and post-grad, I never used to be this large around the waist. And now people often mistake it for a beer belly. *whistles innocently*. I went home recently and the first thing all my friends told me was, “Zu i va heh hmel ve!” which, loosely translated into English, means “Daaayyyymm you look super hot, like a real babe magnet. Killer!” (I did say loosely )
Hence, starting tomorrow – May 5th 2010 - I will be going to gym, working out and burning fat for three months while dieting at the same time.
Though I know I am going to regret posting this image here, I just want it up on my blog so that when I write my “AFTER” post exactly 3 months from now, I will upload the new and improved me, and laugh at this old picture like how you guys are laughing at it right now.
This way, it will also be like a reminder to me that I cannot back down from my attempt to lose weight, as all my beloved blog readers are witness to this. There is no turning back now. *Puts on my Rambo bandanna, with “Eye of the Tiger” blasting in the background*
Here is a count-down timer. It will stop exactly three months from now.
In three months... I may not get the muscle you see above but hell yeah, I AM going to lose my rotund belly.
The Gym.
The name of the gym I joined is ZAF Club, and it is one of the more reputed gyms in Mumbai. It’s not top class, like Gold’s Gym at Bandra, Lokhandwala and Nepean Sea Road, where many Bollywood actors and P3 socialites are known to haunt. But it’s not that bad, and many Hindi TV serial actors come here. But then, I don’t watch Kasauti, Kyunki Saas Bhi... Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki etc so I won’t know them even if we’re doing abs right next to each other.
The best part is, my office is located in the same building as this Gym, so I can just run down, do my stuff, sweat it out, take a shower, and then run back to office.
It costs me a cool 5 grand for the first month alone, but with jacuzzi, spa and sauna access anytime of the day, including discount for full body massage, daily trainer and dietician monitoring, good music by an in-house DJ, etc etc, I think it’s worth it.
Hence, to conclude... No more
It will just be me singing...
It's the eye of the tiger, it's the cream of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
And he's watchin' us all in the eye of the tiger...
...for the next 3 months. And hopefully, by then I will be able to show my abs like how Peter Andre did in “Mysterious girl”. Hoooah!

lolzzzz Grail. Well, it's pretty bad over here, and quite embarrassing to look like this while one is not married yet :D
And, ah yes, I am playing the song on loop... hihihi... really pumps you up doesn't it? :D
haha... that is indeed a 'thingie'!!! lolz :)
by the way, im goin to the gym too from tomorrow. strictly. no bunkin . i've bunked enuf. i dont have that thingie though ;)..
have fun workin out :) hope to see an 'after' picture after 3 months :)
I used to weigh 109 kilos at one point in time. Now a days I weigh 87. I have kept it down by mostly staying away from carbohydrates. Cut down the carbs and you will notice immediate results. If your body needs carbohydrates it can produce its own. Its the only unessential food that we consume.
@ Dr. Chandana: haha. Wow, you know what? That means you and I are gym buddies! 5th May is a special date for us! I am definitely not going to bunk, plus my boss is already on this course, and she is very determined to work out devotedly, so I don't think I will ever bunk as long as she is around. :)
@ odzer: Thanx for the tip bro. I will definitely keep that in mind. The gym's in-house dietitian is always around too, so she too will be giving me a lot of gyaan about what to eat and what not.
And by the way, odzer, Congrats for the weight-loss! 109 to 87 is freaking awesome and I will definitely keep you in mind as my source of inspiration :)
Hah, "CO" says, "I zak lawmni, tlangval senior dilkiar, fnar fnar fnar"... I say... Big bellies are 'in'. Verrry nice- symbolises wealth, affluence and flatulence. If your'e gonna look like one of those muscle-bound hombres, am no longer coming to your blog. Muscles give me major eyesore
@ Lalrinliana: hahaha... nia, exer kan lak hnem poh leh kan ril a tam zual... huisss a mak a nih hi. :)
@ Shuali & Co: lolzzzz give my regards to Co. And also my phone number. :P
Muscular? Well it takes a long time to develop those so you dont have to worry. But yeah, am definitely planning to get those "awm hmul thur" you are crazy about :D
From one tummy to another...all the best!
I must capture those thingie moments fast before it fades away...^_<..
You haven't put on THAT much of weight!! ;)
But yes, hitting the gym to get rid of that belly is a good thing!
remember to drink lots of fluids, avoid oily food and rice in the night!
Don't drink too much alcohol either! :D :D
(All the new gyaan I have from my successful, on-going weight loss!!)
I'm quite sure you will be back to your usual regular self soon! :)
Hugs!
@ Big Sis: Thank you. You can come join me too if you come back to Mumbai :) You can stay at my house too. :D
@ Kym: Haha... and "hets!" at the same time! :D
@ Pixie: Thanx for the advice :) Today I have an appointment with the dietitian at 2pm. She will lecture me on what to eat, drink etc etc... and I've been instructed to take down notes! :) Hopefully, in three months time, I can remove my shirt wherever I go, whenever I want. :D
Haha! Ka thlalak ka en hian keimah pawh ka nuih a za thei :D :D

http://sunfeastworld10k.indiatimes.com/
Cheers, Hetro
@ Prasanth: Great! All the best dude. I too shall run the Mumbai Marathon next year. Enough time to get back into form. :)
@ Lucy: hahahaha... well, I know so many girls like you trying to gain weight! If only there was a system where we can exchange our fat... dayyymmmm... :(
@ Zaia: lolzzz. Thla 3 hnu a awm zel tur te chu kan la sawi dawn nia, tun atanga lo plan lawk te chu a... :D
@ Kima : Oh and I do light exercises. Walk at least 1/2 an hour every day and play soccer 2-3 times a week with the neighbourhood kids. Gym unfortunately is not for me. The idea of sitting in an airconditioned room sweating it out with some other fat sweaty people sort of depresses me. Though I can totally see the point if you want to carve yourself in to a greek god. However good luck. I still have about 7 kilos to lose. Lets hope we can both achieve our goals.
hmm. even i shoulda done something like this. now i feel its too late and don't have the guts to even get pics taken anymore lol. but aah thas a "dayymmm" good song for Any fight. wish i'd remembered it when fighting My war heh :D
now where's that printout of the GM Diet i'd got the other day...
@ odzer: In fact I used to walk to office everyday when I first joined here - a good 5km walk, but it can be done only during the winter, because of the humidity and heat. Hence the only option left is gym, and not because I wanna look like Adonis, though I wouldn't mind :D
@ Peer: No wonder all your facebook photos and profile pics were taken years ago! :D
@ Alej: LUL!
I la zia awm fu hi. Mahse'nalh' deuh i duh chuan lo tang sauh sauh mai rawh. Keini chu gym ball leh tread mill chu kan nei ve, towel ban nan alo tha khawp mai, ball lah naupang in an lawm phian zel!!

With great "dul" comes great responsibility. Dul hi a kiar tawh chuan a thep leh duh mai mai lo ania. All the best!!
If the gym has a shower, why dont you try running to the gym, working out, showering and then going to office.
Btw, you are a very lucky guy to have your office 5 km from your house in Mumbai.
i thau poh ka ti lo e... se, i dul cu i pe kiar ve fu hehe... after three months chu ka van nghakhlel tawh vee... :D
@ Peer: Its never too late to start working out. Junk food goes to waist, while jogging never goes to waste. :)
@ Aduhi: HAHA. Well we'll see. That's why I kept this challenge. Feel free to place a bet. :D
@ Vikram: Yessssss indeed I am extremely lucky to be just 5 km away from office in a place like Mumbai. In my office, just a handful of people stay this close. We are the fortunate ones!!!
And yes, one of the perks about being a member of this gym is, I dont even need to work out. If I feel like taking a nice shower/sauna/jacuzzi in the afternoon during work, I can just do it and then walk upstairs to office completely refreshed!
@ Nancy: lolzzzz, nia ka dul kha i melh nasa riau in ka hre renga, ka rawn haw khan :D hihihi... after 3 months, lets see :)
Dul kiar mai2 te chu a reh hma alawm. Diet tha la reh vat mai alawm...chuan...after 3 months chu ka nghakhlel tawh khawp mai...
Haha, can't help but laugh at the ads on top of the page- secrets of thin women and how to lose belly fat. You dont need expensive equipments and gyms, just walk, take the stairs,... and you can send me the gym money :D
Dont get too comfortable Tummy Junior...in the words of the wise Terminator..."I'll be back!" to re-claim my house, my room, my bed, my TV, my AC, my fridge, my bar, my Mumbai... :-D
@ Big Sis: You've been forbidden to return... by the Department of Health and Sanitation. :D
@ Shuali: The gym is really helping... have lost 30 pounds last night alone... :P
@ Irene: All in good time. 3 months will come by before we know it, and nobody will recognize the thin dude in my blog :D
Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things...:P
Lunacy. You're not fat. And I'd still date you if you were. ;)
I know you've pretty much sworn to yourself and the virtual world that you're going to do this. So there's no use stopping you. But here's my 'assvice' - Allow yourself to indulge once each week, and then on Indulgence Day get yourself from Here to There by doing cartwheels. No walking allowed (unless you're one of those gymnasts who need a little speed going into the cartwheel). Indulgence and Cartwheels! (Incidentally, I believe it's also a decent name for a band.) Good luck!
@ Kym: lolzzzzz.... nice line! :)
@ Eve: Indulgence and cartwheels. hahaha... I think I should consider that advice ;) And thanks about the wishes. I will do this. This is my mount Everest. :D
Totally inspiring and there couldn't be a cooler way of writing it --- Having been there for months now, I couldn't help but jump and reach out to you with my "All the best, make us proud" :)
Sandman, what a belly! if it were becos of beer leave it that way...beer pride. if not lose it..btw do you want me to send you a photo of my hot body for inspiration?
Ha ha ha...Sandman! You now look a lot like ME! :D I envy you, because I have no gym close to my house nor office! I have been postponing my "Weight Loss & Dieting" program for the past 2 years or so! Now, I am just praying that some day, somebody from somewhere will come and set up a Gym near my office! Then I will start doing what you are TRYING to do now!! :)
Khitiang tiah dawn lai khi ka dul a ni ve tawh, ka inhre ve tan riau, tih thep ve ka duh, kan nu lah chu a lawm rih phian thung!!!

( common min ti leh awm! lol )
@ sunshine: Thank you! :) The toughest part about this, is actually not the exercise but the strict diet course I've been prescribed. Dunno if I will be able to follow it.
@ zualbonez: Hahaha. Seeing your picture might repulse me instead of encouraging me... akekekeke :D And its actually not a beer belly, but some other belly... old M... :D
@ dinasailo: Well, I know I am lucky to have this gym in my building, but working in an Ad agency, it is really tough to find free time!!! We work almost 18 hours a day, and by the time we are done with our projects, its past midnight and the gym has already closed down... :(
@ Hlua: lolz. Nia a lawm viau ang in nu chu. Keipawh, ka ahemz hian min zilh min zilh tawh mai in ti cher tur in :D
