Chp 313. My five stages of grief.

Misual.com, a Mizo community blog that my friends and I run, will turn 5 years old tonight! Yay *self congrats* Five years is a long time. As for me, there will be no anniversary celebration because the only five in my mind are the five stages of grief.

Three days ago, I lost my mobile phone. Samsung Omnio Pro B7320

My baby Samsung

Three days ago on a wet Sunday evening, I went grocery shopping. On reaching home, I had around 15 plastic bags filled with food and other stuff from a supermarket and I barely managed to pay the auto driver. It was dark and drizzling too. By the time I dragged all the stuff to my pad on the third floor, I realized my phone was not with me! Aaaargh.

Called my number from another phone. Son of a bitch who must have found it had already switched it off.

And here’s what stings the mostttttttt!

My Samsung phone came with an Anti-theft Mobile tracker technology. All I had to do was activate the feature and submit two phone numbers. Hence every time somebody inserts a different sim card in my phone, a notification will be sent to these two designated phone numbers. From there on, we can report the numbers to the cops who will do the rest. It’s just a one-minute task.

And guess what? Yeah you guessed right. I didn’t activate this freaking feature.

Big lesson learnt. Shoot me.

13,000 bucks down the drain. And it’s not even 6 months old. My friends used to ask me why I didn’t buy a Blackberry Curve instead as they cost almost the same. And a Bberry is highly recommended in my line of work as we have to stay connected all the time. But there were a lot of things I loved about my Omnio Pro (*sigh* it hurts speaking about it in the past tense). I visited all my favorite blogs and social networking sites using this phone all the time. In fact I stopped reading newspapers in the loo (a habit that I had since school days) and instead browsed news sites on my phone right from the loo.

I was so used to this phone that even after losing it, I would grip an imaginary phone in my hand. And then that imaginary phone would have a weak signal, so I would shake my hand to get better signal. All went well until a female colleague slapped me and later sued me for sexual harassment.

Anyway, here are my five stages of grief. Some people express grief through poetry or prose. Here is me doing this through a comic strip!

This is also my first attempt at comic stripping. Many of my favorite bloggers have their own comic strip series running. I really find this genre of bloggers interesting and maybe I will do it again later.

Mizohican 5 stages of grief - 1

Mizohican 5 stages of grief - 2

Mizohican 5 stages of grief - 3

Mizohican 5 stages of grief - 4

Mizohican 5 stages of grief - 5

For my next phone, my mind is already fixed on an Android phone. I’ll most probably be going for the Samsung i5700 Galaxy Spica. It costs around 12K and is something I can afford right now. But I also fell in love with the 30K range of Android smartphones. Right now I am stuck between the Samsung Galaxy S and HTC Desire. Both look formidable and are the clear champs in this category, even giving the new iPhone4 a run for its money.

I so want these two phones, either of them, and I have done loads and loads of research on them. I’ll most probably buy one of these 30K phones on EMIs. Or, if you really like this comic strip or enjoy visiting my blog, I really wouldn’t mind if you donate some dough towards my “Android Smartphone” fund

if it were me, i'd go for the samsung galaxy S simply cos its undoubtedly the best smartphone the world over at present; i've read loads of reviews too :D Plus, samsung looks cooler (my opinion) lol

Banno said...

Ha, ha. I guess losing your phone is Ok in the long run, if it started you off on drawing comic strips.

illusionaire said...

@ Kim Chinzah: Still reading reviews and comparisons about them. Clearly there are features where one is dominant over the other... the important thing is to select the features that are most relevant to me. :)

@ Banno: lolz. Like the saying, everything happens for a good reason. Or wait. Is this still the denial phase? :D

OpaHmar said...

LMAO here, especially the 3rd stage _ Bargaining...hahahahaa

So how do I contribute to your android fund, paypal or credit card. BTW i think i still owe you 50p or Re 1 (you know why)

Oh and did you notice the number of your post "313". Perhaps it is significant.

illusionaire said...

@ Opa Hmar: hehe thats the way to bargain :D :D Keep your 50p. Your turn will come soon, you'll need it :D

@ thinchhia: Ka tih bo khi lei zawk rawh. A tha lutuk, i inchhir lo ang (as long as you don't lose it). :)

@ Big Sis: Big sisters should buy little brother new android phones. That is the trend these days.

@ Odzer: I was never good at numerology :D But maybe somewhere in a parallel universe, there is a deep significance. :)

No 3 prayer one is hilarious! Reveals so much about you. All females whose blogs you comment on can now rest in peace knowing that you - (1) enjoy their writing, or (2) find them hot LOL

Smartphones are too complicated. I hated my previous phone, some shiny LG thing, but my phone makes me miss even that crappy phone. And in my excitement at getting a new really 'smart' phone, I had already generously given it away :((

I am truly impressed with your strip work. The comic strip :P It's witty and funny and just really well done. (and you know I mean this because I never say nice things on here :P)

Oh and I was extra thrilled to see Old Spice guy :) Are you sure you don't want to smell like him?

I've lost my wallet a couple of times way back when mobiles were the future and small address books were popular, and I did go through the five stages. Since then, I've become too compulsive to lose anything, I check all my pockets every five minutes when I'm out, specially when I'm riding.
My verdict: Present day Android OS is still the first generation, so make sure the phone you buy will have an option of upgrading to the next release, else it's worth squat.

@ Jerusha: Ah, now you know my secret, I'm gonna have to kill you :) Thanx for the compliment about the strip, though this is not the first time you've seen my strip *wink*

Actually, I did buy an Old Spice after shave because of him. But it is so wrong to tell another guy, "I'm the man your man could smell like". :D

@ VaiVa: Hahahaha... nia a nih duh hmel. Nokia 3310 thar ah chuan boot option 5 a awm - WinMo, Symbian, Android, Apple IOS leh Blackberry OS. :P

@ Blackestred: Yup I'll definitely keep that in mind. Samsung i7500 has better camera & memory than i5700 but it flopped because it wasn't possible to upgrade the android OS. Both HTC Desire and Samsung Galaxy S has an option to upgrade to android 2.2 from 2.1

reviews and comparisons chu ka chhiar nual toh, Android ka lei tumna rei toh a. So far from what i've read, i think galaxy-S is mostly preferred. And if features is what your lookin for(like me), i think it provides some pretty useful/convenient features which i assume 'will' be relevant to u...plus some cool ones :D. Btw, a fren of mine who knows phones abit more than most ppl, he said HTC phones are not so good in hardware n parts; hard to repair n replace.

illusionaire said...

@ Pala: lolzzzz Monicaaaaa. Of course we'll be there for Faham's b'day. After all, I did teach him about the sands and stones, since you won't tell him about the birds and bees. :D

@ Kim chinzah: haha I too have a friend who knows phones a bit more than most people :P And he recommends I go for the HTC Desire rather than Galaxy S. Here are his tweets Tweet 1 Tweet 2 Tweet 3

@ Jona: Thanx :D Samsung is a great phone, if one is used to it. But I don't know about their expertise in the android market. They are still pretty new in this category.

@ Alejandro: Ang tura ka draw reng a lawm :D

First, Congrats on 5 years with Misual.com. Woo hoo!!

I'm so so sorry about the phone. That breaks my heart to hear. I know the loss of a phone can be painful. Go ahead and let yourself be as sad as you feel. It's part of the process...Oh wait, you actually came up with a whole comic strip for that. :D

I've been marginally anti-Blackberry for a while now. Maybe also to convince myself that I didn't need any new toys. Then the folks at Nokia India decided to give me the Nokia X6. And I was sold within about five minutes. Gorgeous, smooth, intuitive, fast... everything an appliance should be.
I'm going to shut up now before I start talking about push protocols and whatnot... enjoy deciding on what to buy now! :)

And yea, switch on the anti-theft thingy this time!! :P

illusionaire said...

@ Kim Chinzah: lolz. Well, I was searching for the Galaxy S and HTC Desire FYI. None of the stores I went to had it. They also said it will be out of stock everywhere right now.

@ Pixie: hehehe... thats where great minds are born actually. The "throne". lolz. And yup, I will definitely remember to to activate my anti-theft this time.

@ Dave: Hmmm... a tangkai vak lo tihna a mi? Chennai lamah an ngaipawimawhlo chu a mak ka ti. Entirnan, Mizoram ah te chuan tu pawn sim a lei theih a, chhui ngaihna vak a awm lova, mahse Mumbai angah te hi chu sim card lei dawn chuan proof engkim submit a ngai, nakinah pawh chhui a awl nan. illusionaire said...

@ Dr. Chandana: lolz. That was truly interesting. I'm glad it was a happy ending for you. I wish I had activated that feature too :( And yes, get that anti-theft software fast, before history repeats itself.

@ Shuaksual: Shhhh... don't talk about that 3-months promise I made on my blog. Others have already forgotten about it. Let sleeping dogs lie. :D

@ Eve: Thanx for the congrats :D And yes, I am not a Bberry fan either. My blog doesn't display on any of the Curves. The Bolds display them but they cost around 10K more than the Curves. And yes, there's a lot of horizontal scrolling at most of the blogs I frequent and if I reduce the font size to remove horizontal scrolling, then the fonts are too small. So its definitely not what I want. And of course, currently Bberry is facing issue with the GOI regarding security, which is very likely to escalate :D
